Square Enix's E3 Announcements

Square Enix is busy at this year's E3. Two big games, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Avengers each got trailers and release dates. These franchises are exciting to many gamers, so it is great to see how these two major titles will play.

Speaking of Final Fantasy, Square Enix is also launching a remaster of Crystal Chronicles, which will include online multiplayer. Final Fantasy VIII is also getting a remaster later this year.

The Avengers game is one of the most anticipated and will be releasing in May 2020 and features a familiar cast of characters from the MCU, but with a slightly different look. It doesn't seem like this game follows the movies, but it should be an enjoyable single player and co-op experience.

Square Enix also announced the addition of a ton of Final Fantasy soundtracks to music streaming services. There are more releases planned, but it's always nice to see official soundtracks available, rather than grainy bootlegs off of YouTube.

Another announced game is Outriders, a 3-player co-op action game slated for release in summer 2020. It seems like 2020 will be a big year for co-op at Square Enix!

The final announcement from the studio is Oninaki, a JRPG set for August of this year.

Ubisoft Had a Lot to Say at E3 Today

Ubisoft had plenty of games and other things to announce at E3 today.

Watch Dogs 3 is among the announced titles, which will be set in a future post-Brexit London. It was also revealed that Walking Dead and Punisher star Jon Bernthal will be a major character in the upcoming Ghost Recon Breakpoint, a game that was already revealed in the past. Rainbow Six is getting yet another title, called Rainbow Six Quarantine, which will be a squad-based survival shooter.

As for totally new games, there are some interesting ones. Roller Champions is a multiplayer roller derby game, which definitely seems like something that hasn't been done yet! The team behind Assassin's Creed is also working on another game that involves Greek mythology. This one is called Gods & Monsters, and we received a cinematic trailer as well as a release date: February 25th, 2020.

That's all from Ubisoft at E3 2019! Plenty of interesting games, from both new and existing franchises, as well as other forms of entertainment.

While it's unclear about how Ubisoft is involved, they announced that It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator Rob McElhenney is going to creating a game development comedy series called Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet. It will be available on Apple TV, and seems intriguing at the very least.

Not to be beaten by all their competitors, Ubisoft has also announced a game subscription service, called UPlay Plus. This $14.99/month subscription will give access to over 100 Ubisoft games including DLC. This will be available in September 2019.

For fans of The Division, you'll be happy (hopefully) to know that The Division is getting a movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal. This was previously announced, and the only piece of news we got is that it's coming to Netflix.

Xbox Project Scarlett Details

Microsoft has unveiled details about the upcoming 2020 Xbox, codenamed Project Scarlett.

This console is looking to make a splash in the gaming market. It will feature a custom CPU based on AMD’s new Zen 2 architecture. They are also claiming it will support 8K resolution, up to 120fps, ray-tracing, and support for variable refresh rate. Most excitingly, there will be SSD storage on this console. Games will load a lot faster thanks to this! It will also include an optical drive, which many potential buyers are excited about. All in all, this looks like a worthy successor to the Xbox One and its variants. This project is still on the horizon though, so it may not be until next year’s E3 that we really start seeing some games be played on this system.
