The town of Newt has become barren since H&H Slaughter house was closed down in 1969, making thousands lose their jobs. With the slaughter house having been such a central point of the towns economy many moved away leaving the slaughter house abandoned. The slaughter house didn't remain empty for long since the Sawyer's moved themselves in to use it as their own personal slaughter house to fulfill their cannibalistic tendencies.
