Velaris is a city based in the 1800s where industrialization is beginning; changing the city and all it's inhabitants. Candles give way to electricity, machines begin to take over manpower, railways are built across the land, and the printing press is created, giving way to newspapers, a whole new era of literature.
Despite the revolution, the city is still set in old ways like the clip clop of horses drawing buggies down crowded cobblestone roads. Grand theaters are still relevant, operas and plays the main source of entertainment. Pubs and taverns litter the streets, leaving both drunken men and women to fend for themselves.
The land is ruled by monarchy where both men and women have the opportunity to become king, queen or both if they're married. Fear not though, their rule isn't long as they are able to be bumped out of their position of power and the laws that had once been in place by them are able to be rewritten by the new crowns in charge
