This is as true in life as much as I want it to be true in Anime.
Symphogears and Demon Slayer are the current season offenders for this, though Demon Slayer not quite as much. I won't go into deep dive spoiler territory, but both involve the MC feeling sorry for the evil creatures that have no qualms about slaughtering people.
At the very least, Demon Slayer has our hero still kill the demons in question, but the time he takes to feel sorry for the creature that just killed a bunch of people without a second through and doesn't feel remorse for it still bothers me.
Symphogear outright has a MC who wants to become bestest friends with people who just got finished killing 70,000 people! And they don't care! This is the kind of enemy that we need a hero who will act more like Police chasing down a Cop Killer. Quietly hoping they get an excuse to kill them before they are required to drag them to court.
As I write this, I am almost reminded of the background for Sigaraki from My Hero Acadamia. Again, no spoilers, but it was seemingly written as to make the reader pity the mass murdering villain who, in the first season, tried to slaughter children and treated it like it was a game.
No, Hirokoshi, I don't feel sorry for him. And if the story doesn't end with a massive splatter of the guy's brains on a wall from a Smash to the FACE then I won't be happy with the end of My Hero Acadamia.
And I don't care about people complaining about "taking the law into your own hands". At some point, the trial just becomes a pointless affair done just to check a few boxes and dot a few eyes. The death penalty is already written up, signed, notarized and a date picked out. You are just waiting for it to get set in motion.
Why they haven't already killed All For One is BEYOND me.
