Cette rivalité longue de plusieurs décennies maintenant, persiste de générations en générations. La ville fut donc séparée en deux côtés : "la rive ouest" appartenant aux Skaikru, et "la rive est" appartenant aux Trikru. Bien que personne ne sache vraiment l'origine de cette guerre, les traditions subsistent malgré tout et ont la peau dure. Skaikru et Trikru ne se mélangent pas et toutes relations avec le partie opposé est considérée comme trahison.
