Recent happenings on discord.me and Matrix group

Pinned

Unfortunately it took me a little bit to figure this out, but after having assigned a channel for inviting members in, the listing for Linux Enthusiast Group has been re-listed. It appears like you have to click on a completely unnecessary overflow menu hiding the edit button, which took more than ten minutes to figure out — big UI fail.

For people curious if there are alternative means to join our group, there were until spammers and bots made it untenable to maintain a presence on Matrix without tedious micro-management. Until we find somebody with more expertise than our current staff managing civility and cleanliness in our Matrix group, access to this group is discontinued indefinitely. Apologies to people who can't join in on our conversation otherwise due to Discord and other social media services rendered inaccessible in your region.

Guild blog 0x00 — Music conduct

We have a music bot, kindly maintained by Jonte at the moment. While what is considered culturally and morally acceptable differs between people, music is one of those few things that people can usually agree upon. Just to remind people, at the moment you play music with command "jmb play" followed by a search query or direct address.

But there is one thing you should remember about using this bot: if somebody really doesn't like what you are playing and it is directly affecting the satisfaction of their experience in our guild, then you ought to respect their request. Sometimes, people can't just mute the bot on-a-whim because their handset is disabled, or they have company over and are (foolishly) relying on the bot to provide entertainment for others. It's okay to get weird and explicit with it if everybody agrees it isn't a problem, but for those rare occasions when someone says it is, make a best effort to respect it.

With love, Heebeejeebees.

Concerns about review genuineness on Disboard

Hey there. This post is made just in case anyone doubts the validity of reviews posted on our DIsboard, here: https://disboard.org/server/reviews/225678837051031552

It is understandable to be skeptical of a place that has somehow gained more reviews than Ubuntu Hideout, while being so highly-rated and well praised. While I wouldn't consider the praise we receive a problem normally, for someone from the outside looking in it could easily be imagined these reviews are paid. So here's a pro tip for anyone curious if the reviews are genuine: ask them.

Some of the people shown are not in the guild anymore for a variety of reasons, but most of them are are there. For everyone available who had committed a review in the past, they have a "@Feedback provider" role you can ping to ensure these reviews were genuine.
